Let’s be honest here. Don’t act like you have no idea what I’m talking about. You know exactly what I mean. If you’ve been in or around Network Marketing for any length of time, or even know someone who has, you know that MLM gets such a bad rap.

Most people have a severely negative outlook about our industry.

“It’s one of those pyramid scams isn’t it?”

“Isn’t that illegal?”

“I heard those don’t work.”

“I’ve never known anyone who made any money with one of those.”

“Get a real job.”

You’ve probably heard some of these rants and perhaps, much worse. Unfortunately, when you say ‘MLM’ or ‘Network Marketing’ people usually run for the hills.

Why is that? What caused our wonderful, income producing, leader creating, industry to get such a bad name?

The answer is really very simple and can be summed up in two points.

1 – People have had negative past experiences with Network Marketing.

Or

2 – People know someone who has had negative past experiences with Network Marketing.

Both of these options have everything to do with how people are exposed to this industry. Unfortunately, MLM has a life of its own and can’t always be 100% controlled. Distributors in Network Marketing do things wrong all the time.

They beg people.

They push way too hard.

They get their feelings hurt.

They don’t drop it once they’ve been rejected.

They get mad when they don’t have instant success.

They don’t learn the skills necessary to create success in this industry.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There’s a whole litany of things the average MLMer does wrong every day.

I can’t really blame them. Their hearts are usually in the right place. They want to create success so badly that they’ll do anything for it, even cut corners. They key is to not get lazy.

This tends to happen when distributors try to do what’s ‘easy’ and not what works. That’s when it starts to become a problem for the industry. Let me be the first to say that if it seems easy, it’s usually the wrong thing to do. Success is always difficult to attain.

My advice to you and the rest of the profession is simple. Take the time to learn the skills necessary to create success and build your business with integrity. If you can do those two things, you’re well on your way. Just remember, it takes time to build anything of substance.

If the entire MLM industry practiced those two things, then people would start to think vastly different about Network Marketing. When people hear about this industry we want them to think things like good, wholesome, legitimate, sustainable, life-altering, and income-producing.

That’s the goal. Now let’s get out there and work like dogs to achieve it.
